The context
NCC 2025 arrives in Queensland on 1 May 2027
Queensland deferred NCC 2025 in March 2026. NCC 2022 stays mandatory until 30 April 2027, and there is no window to use either edition.

Siting, flood and energy rules sit in the QDC, not the NCC. Miss one and you get an RFI or a redesign. NCC 2025 then brings climate zones 1 and 3 into the condensation rules for the first time.

What’s different in Queensland
Queensland runs the NCC alongside its own Queensland Development Code (QDC). These are the rules that set Queensland work apart.

Which NCC applies in Queensland, and what CPD is available?
NCC 2022 applies in Queensland right now. NCC 2025 commences on 1 May 2027, with no dual edition window, and the Queensland Development Code applies alongside the NCC. CPD On Demand offers recognised, product neutral online CPD for Queensland building designers, architects and energy assessors: national NCC 2025 courses are available now, and Queensland-specific courses are in development. - The switch. NCC 2022 applies until 30 April 2027. NCC 2025 commences in Queensland on 1 May 2027, with no dual edition window.
- QDC and the BCA. The Queensland Development Code applies alongside the NCC. Under the building assessment provisions of the Building Act 1975 (Qld), where a QDC part is inconsistent with the BCA, the QDC part prevails.
- Siting, MP 1.1 and MP 1.2. The Queensland Housing Code was published on 3 August 2026 and commenced on 1 September 2026. It replaces QDC MP 1.1 and MP 1.2 in a council area once that council’s planning scheme adopts it, or automatically from 1 September 2029.
- Flood, MP 3.5. QDC MP 3.5 applies to building work in council declared flood hazard areas.
- Sustainability, MP 4. From 14 August 2026, QDC MP 4.1 adds two extra compliance options: 5 stars for detached homes of 50 m² or less, and 6 stars for homes with raised floors. The standard 7 star route still stands. These options drop the separate heating and cooling load limits, but the overall thermal energy load limit still applies.
Always confirm the edition that applies to your project with your state or territory building authority. Correct as at September 2026.

How condensation forms inside residential wall and roof assemblies, and how NCC 2025 addresses the risk through ventilated cavities, building membranes and climate specific design decisions.

Energy assessment
For energy assessors: how to read a NatHERS specification that exists but says too little, and turn its words into defensible modelling inputs using the Technical Note’s evidence standard.

- Classify every line of a specification as prescriptive, performance or reference, and state what each can give a NatHERS model.
- Assess an underspecified window schedule against the Technical Note’s rules, including the three conditions for substituting a custom window.
- Write the ranked clarification request and the certificate note that let a certifier test the built house without a dispute.

Yes. Each CPD On Demand course is recognised CPD, worth one formal CPD point for architects and building designers, with a certificate when you complete it. For energy assessors, each assessor course is one technical CPD point. ABSA and BDAA accept CPD On Demand courses. Check how your registration body or association asks you to log it.

It was published on 3 August 2026 and commenced on 1 September 2026, and it applies in a council area once that council’s planning scheme adopts it, or automatically from 1 September 2029.
