CPD deadlines calendar: October 2026 to September 2027
Every fixed CPD cutoff, renewal date and rule change for architects, building designers, NatHERS assessors and other building professionals, month by month and state by state. Where a deadline runs from your own registration date, we say so.

- Queensland architects: the CPD year ends on 31 March 2027. Renewal runs from 1 April to 31 May 2027, and registration expires on 30 June 2027.
- Victorian, WA and SA architects: the CPD year runs 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. Victorian renewal and fees are due by 30 June 2027; WA fees are due by 30 September 2027.
- NSW architects: most renew on 30 June 2027 and report CPD in June. Architects first registered or reinstated after 1 July 2019 renew on their anniversary.
- Tasmanian architects: the annual fee is due by 31 January 2027. NT and ACT architects run from their registration anniversary.
- Building designers: BDQ members submit CPD by 1 May 2027. BDAA members complete their CPD before their own membership or accreditation renewal date.
- NatHERS assessors: there is no single date. CPD is due in each year of your accreditation, before your renewal date.
- Rule changes: NCC 2025 applies from 1 May 2027 in NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania. Victoria aims to make CPD rules for builders and building practitioners by late 2026.

Architects
Architects’ CPD deadlines by state
The CPD period and the registration renewal are often different dates. Here is each board’s cycle for 2026 to 27. Every board needs 20 hours or points a year, at least 10 formal, except the ACT, where a CPD requirement is not yet confirmed. See how many CPD points you need.

New South Wales
Most NSW architects have a registration renewal date of 30 June, so their CPD report is due in June 2027 and fees are payable in the month before the new term. Architects first registered or reinstated after 1 July 2019 renew on their anniversary and report CPD in the month before. The CPD report is submitted in the renewal. There is no grace period: registration lapses if you do not renew by the due date, but renewing within 3 months backdates your new term. Each year a random sample of architects is audited.

Victoria
The CPD cycle is the financial year, 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. Renewal of registration is due by 30 June 2027, and you declare your CPD when you renew. A late fee applies from 1 July, and architects who have not renewed by 31 July 2027 are removed from the register. Exemption requests must reach the ARBV within 2 months of the end of the registration period.

Queensland
The CPD year runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. The renewal period runs from 1 April to 31 May 2027, when you report your CPD, and registration expires on 30 June 2027. You can apply for restoration within 2 months after expiry. Architects are selected each year for a random CPD audit.

South Australia
CPD is counted over the registration year, July 2026 to June 2027, and reported on the online renewal form. The board’s renewal deadline and 2027 late fee dates are not yet confirmed from an official source we could read, so check with the Architectural Practice Board of South Australia.

Western Australia
The CPD year is the financial year, 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. In July 2027 every architect receives a renewal email, and fees are due by 30 September 2027. Architects who do not pay by 30 September are removed from the register. Audit notices are only sent after the CPD year ends.

Tasmania
Every architect must pay the annual registration fee on or before 31 January 2027. Registration itself runs for 3 years from the date you were entered on the register, and you can renew before, or within 30 days after, it expires. Architects who also hold a CBOS licence confirm CPD when that licence is renewed, on its own anniversary.

Australian Capital Territory
Registration is for 1 year from your anniversary. If you renew after it expires you pay an application fee. A CPD requirement is not yet confirmed: check with the ACT Architects Board.

Northern Territory
A CPD report must be submitted each year by the anniversary of your registration, and proof of CPD goes in with your renewal application. Registration terms are 1, 3 or 5 years.

BDQ members
BDQ’s CPD Program commences on 1 April each year, and members must complete their CPD submission by 1 May. For the 2026 to 27 year that means submitting by 1 May 2027.
BDAA members
BDAA members complete their CPD before their own membership or accreditation renewal date each year, so the deadline is your anniversary, not a fixed date. Renewal invoices go out one month before your renewal date. BDAA Accredited Members and ABSA assessors follow their accreditation cycle instead.
Design Matters National members
Design Matters National publishes CPD deadlines for its accredited energy assessors, who must meet their CPD before their renewal date. We could not find a published CPD deadline for its building designer members.
NatHERS assessors
When is CPD due for NatHERS assessors?
There is no single national date. The NatHERS protocol requires at least 12 CPD points in each year of accreditation, so your deadline is your own accreditation renewal date. That applies whether you are accredited through ABSA, Design Matters National or HERA. If you miss it, you must complete the missing CPD before you can be reaccredited, and your AAO can suspend your accreditation until you do. Design Matters National says all annual CPD requirements must be met before the renewal date.

Rule changes
Regulatory dates to plan around
- 1 November 2026, ACT: projects whose development or works approval application is lodged before this date can keep using either NCC edition for building approval.
- Late 2026, Victoria: the Department of Transport and Planning aims to make CPD regulations for builders, plumbers and building practitioners. CPD would start at least 6 months after the regulations are made.
- 1 May 2027, NCC 2025: applies in NSW, Queensland, South Australia (Building Code) and Tasmania. NCC 2022 applies until 30 April 2027. It becomes mandatory in the ACT and for most applications in WA. Victoria adopted it on 1 May 2026; the Northern Territory has set no date. See the ABCB adoption table.

CPD deadline questions
When is the CPD deadline for architects in Queensland?
The Board of Architects of Queensland’s CPD year runs from 1 April to 31 March, so the current CPD year ends on 31 March 2027. Architects then report their CPD when they renew, in the renewal period from 1 April to 31 May 2027, and registration expires on 30 June 2027.
When is the CPD deadline for architects in Victoria?
Victorian architects’ CPD cycle is the financial year, so the current cycle ends on 30 June 2027. Renewal of registration, including the CPD declaration, is due by 30 June 2027. A late fee applies from 1 July, and architects who have not renewed by 31 July 2027 are removed from the register.
When is the CPD deadline for architects in NSW?
Most NSW architects have a registration renewal date of 30 June, so their CPD report is due in June 2027 as part of renewal. Architects first registered or reinstated after 1 July 2019 renew on their registration anniversary and report CPD in the month before.
When are architects’ registration fees due in Western Australia?
WA architects’ registration fees for the year are due by 30 September, so the next deadline is 30 September 2027. The CPD year runs 1 July to 30 June, renewal emails go out in July, and architects who do not pay by 30 September are removed from the register.
When do Tasmanian architects pay their annual fee?
Tasmanian architects must pay the annual registration fee on or before 31 January each year, so the next deadline is 31 January 2027. Registration itself runs for 3 years from the date you were entered on the register.
When do BDQ members submit CPD?
BDQ (Building Designers’ Association of Queensland) members must complete their CPD submission by 1 May each year, so the next deadline is 1 May 2027. The CPD Program year commences on 1 April.
When is CPD due for BDAA members?
BDAA members complete their CPD before their own membership or accreditation renewal date each year, so the deadline is your anniversary rather than a fixed date. Check your renewal date on your BDAA member page.
When is CPD due for NatHERS assessors?

When will Victoria’s CPD for builders start?
Victoria has not set a start date. The Department of Transport and Planning aims to make the CPD regulations for builders, plumbers and building practitioners by late 2026, with CPD starting at least 6 months after the regulations are made.
