A project that started under the 2010 rules and lodges after the council adopted the new code. For the next three years the first question on any Queensland lot is which rule set is in force there today.
This one hour CPD course is for Queensland building designers. It covers how the Queensland Housing Code binds council by council, the site cover, setback and height standards on either side of the 450 square metre split, secondary dwellings with their parking and open space, the standards a council may vary, and the Modern Homes Standards easings.
Description
By the end of this course, you will be able to establish which siting rules govern a Queensland lot on the day you design it, and record that answer where a certifier can see it. The Queensland Housing Code commenced on 1 September 2026, but it binds in a council area only once that council amends its planning scheme, so until 1 September 2029 the 2010 Queensland Development Code parts remain live in many places. Site cover, front, side and rear setbacks and building height are worked through on both sides of the 450 square metre split, where small lots gained the most ground. Secondary dwellings are sized against the 50 and 60 square metre caps and followed through to the third parking space and the private open space they bring with them. The Modern Homes Standards easings that commenced on 14 August 2026 close the course, from the 5 star small home pathway to the ramp-ready option.
